Canadian dressage rider Ally Dunlop has lost her number one horse Givarro. The 13-year KWPN gelding passed in 2024.
Givarro was by De Niro out of Navarra (by Godfather x Dublin). He was bred by J. Lenaerts.

Givarro was competed as a youngster in The Netherlands by Annelies Geluk in 2015.
The 28-year old Dunlop, whose international career started on pony Oke Doke in 2010 and who moved into the junior division in 2012 with Danero (by De Niro x Rubinstein), acquired Givarro and announced his arrival in Florida in February 2018.
The duo made its national show debut in canada in 2018. They first competed in the 7-year old classes at the Kwartha Spring Classic and also showed in Caledon. The pair competed in Wellington, Florida, on the national circuit between 2019 and 2023 before their CDI debut.
Their international debut was 23 February 2023 in Wellington, where they competed in the small tour for two months at the Global Dressage Festival. They went to the CDI Caledon and returned to Florida for the winters. In 2024 they did one international in Wellington on 28 March but were excused from the ride. It was Givarro's last competition.
Sad Passing
At the start of the new year, Dunlop disclosed that she had to part ways with Givarro. She did not disclose his cause of death.
"I have been very quiet this year because it has been one of the most difficult of my life," she took to Instagram. "Most heavy this year, I tragically and heartbreakingly lost Drake. I still don’t have the words to express what he means to me, and our journey together and the immeasurable love I have for him. It is incredibly painful for me to talk about and I’m not ready for it to be real (...) I have struggled with coming to terms."
