Danish chef d'equipe Rudolf Zeilinger, a German native living in Bremen, announced the Olympic Team for Denmark begin August 2000. Lars Petersen will be the leading rider
on the approved breeding stallion Blue Hors Cavan, Lone Jorgenssen backs him up on the Baden Wurtemberg chestnut FBW Kennedy. The team is completed by Jan Pedersen on Esprit de Valdemar and Anne van Olst on either Dempsey or Any How. Alternate rider for Danish team will be Morten Thompson. All horses have gone into quarantine in Lingen, Germany.
Only one week after the announcement of the team, the Danish had to deal with a major set back. Blue Hors Cavan, the number one horse of the team, was operated on an ingenual fracture, an illness which is called "Hodenbruch" in Germany. The Westfalian stallion Rubinstein also dealt with it just before his death. Cavan is recouperating fast and is currently in quarantine but Zeilinger has adressed reserve rider Morten Thompson to be stand-by in order to fall in for Petersen.
