The 14-year old Hanoverian stallion Wetano (by Weltmeyer out of Belinda (by Brentano II x Woermann)) has died unexpectedly following cardiac arrest.
The chestnut stallion, bred by the German Haus Langenbrück, was owned by the Norwegian young rider Lillan Jebsen, who trains in Denmark.
Wetano was discovered by the Swedish Flyinge State Stud as a 4-year old. Flyinge head rider Susanne Gielen trained and competed the talented dressage stallion from young horse level all the way to Grand Prix.
Gielen and Wetano competed at the 2000 World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Arnheim, The Netherlands where the combination placed 9th. Later that year they became Swedish Champion in the 5-year old division and reserve champions in the 6-year old division
In December 2007 Danish horse dealer Hasse Hoffmann acquired Wetano to sell him to his client Norwegian young rider Lillan Jebsen. The talented pair won the Nordic Baltic Championships in 2007 and 2008 and they finished seventh at the 2008 European Young Rider Championships.
"I will also cherish the big, beautiful heart of this special personality," a saddened Jebsen told Hestesport. "He was the best horse you can think of. He always did his best all the way. He really was a gentleman."
Jebsen recently purchased the British Grand Prix horse Pro-Set (by Jet Set) as new competition horse.
