Swedish enthusiasts of the Hanoverian breed have established an officially endored Swedish Hanoverian Club at a general assembly on Saturday 29 January 2011. Thirty-five breeders from all over Sweden attended the inception of the "Svenska Hannoveranerklubben"

at the Scandic Star Hotel in Lund, Sweden.

The general assembly was led by Pernilla Strom, who took the initiative last summer to found the club. She raised a working group and made contacts with the German Hanoverian society. She was elected as chair and Claes Hellqvist as vice-chair of the club. Further board members are Anne-Sophie Greiffencrantz, Beritt Olthoff, Karl-Wilhelm Littmann and Patricia Norrman.

"We Swedes are used to simple hierarchies and this is how our club will function. For the first year, during which we have to get to know each other and co-operate, I consider the work of the board to be an extension of the working group," said Pernilla Strom.

The main goal of the club is to host breeding shows and advise breeders. The Swedish club aims to co-operate with its Danish neighbour.  This was music to the ears of Anne Kollberg, board member of the Danish Hanoverian Club, who attended the event.

Dr. Ludwig Christman was the German representative at the assembly and wished his Swedish colleagues the best of luck in spreading the popularity of the Hanoverian breed.
