Eurodressage correspondent Barbara Schnell braved the -15° weather to drive to Rosendahl, Germany, early in the morning to photograph several training sessions at Klaus Balkenhol's stable. Helen Langehanenberg trailered in for a lesson, while Annabel Balkenhol presented her new horse Highlander and Grand Prix horse Winci for the camera.
For the photo session Anabel saddled new ride Highlander (by Hohenstein x Hill Hawk xx) and also schooled a much-matured Winci (by Weinberg). The black Hanoverian gelding Highlander was previously trained by Dorothee Schneider and Karin Rehbein. He was originally a licensed stallion but got gelded in August 2010. He is owned by the Swedish Ängagården.
Helen Langehanenberg was also there for a lesson with her two Grand Prix horses Damon Hill (by Donnerhall x Rubinstein) and Responsible (by Rohdiamant).
"While the cold and the glaring sun made my work pretty difficult, it was fascinating to watch the calmness and focus at work," Schnell told Eurodressage.
