The colt Freiherr and the broodmare Solaika became the price highlights of the 2013 Hanoverian Elite Foal and Broodmare auction in Verden on 17 - 18 August 2013.

During the two auction days three foals were sold for top prices and all three of them were bred by the same breeder and descending from
the same sire De Niro. This is a novelty in the history of the Hanoverian auctions. And another historical record was set: the most expensive broodmare ever at the auction was bought for 62,000 euro.

Freiherr (by Metall x Stedinger) became the most expensive foal of the auction. Buyers from Germany and Denmark bid on this colt but the Germans had the highest bid and acquired him for 31,000 euro.

A total of 99 foals were offered for sale on the first day. The second most expensive foal was Donna Doria (by De Niro x Sandro Hit), bred by Gerold Gögele from Bleckede. Auctioneer Bernd Hickert sold the young, eagerly moving filly for 29,000 euro to Indonesia.

A total of 122 foals were put up for auction the second day. Two progeny by the top sire De Niro became the top priced horses: Darios (by De Niro x Stedinger) and Denisa (by De Niro x Hohenstein) are both bred by Gerold Gögele and both sold for 26,000 euro. Darios moves to Denmark, Denisa to Canada.

The average price for a foal at this auction was 6,572 euro. No less than 86 of the 221 foals put up for auction will move to new home stables abroad. Denmark heads the statistics with 12 purchases, followed by the US and Sweden with each eight foals.

The four-year-old state premium candidate Solaika (by Soliman de Hus x Wesley) sold to Italy for 62,000 euro. The average price for a broodmare was 12,524 euro.
