British Breeding are delighted to introduce their 2021 Futurity Elite Auction Dressage Collection of 11 exquisitely bred foals from exceptional motherliness and selected via the British Breeding Baileys Horsefeeds Futurity Programme. The auction will be held as a hybrid event on 22 September with buyers invited to bid online or attend the physical auction at the BS National Training Centre in Hothorpe, Leicestershire, LE17 6QX, UK.
Says Dr Eva-Maria Broomer, Director of British Breeding:
“We are incredibly proud of this year’s auction collection, which focuses on exceptional quality. Our 11 auction lots offer an interesting snapshot of how far British breeders have come in recent years. They invested in some of the best motherliness in the world, and used an interesting cocktail of stallions, often combining top Dutch and top German lines to create young horses of exceptional talent and provenance.”
Auction Highlights
One example of combining the best of German and Dutch breeding is Lot 7, Ginleys Ginarte, a filly by Glamourdale. Her mother is by Johnson and goes back to Walpurgis, a mare purchased in Germany by the late Eva Kirby who was the mother of none other than Spencer Wilton’s Olympic ride Super Nova. Ginarte’s grandmother has competed successfully at FEI PSG with Lauren Noble.
Following his breath-taking performance at Verden, many buyers will be interested in Lot 10, Joviality, by Jovian. This very elegant filly is out of a very pretty Hotline x Londonderry mare whose family produced this year’s BHHS Surpreme Champion. The mother is half-sister to the licensed stallion Clapton, now sold to the US, and comes from the motherline of Emma Hindle’s Wie Weltmeyer.
Dutch lines have generally been popular with British breeders this year, and we can see this also in Lot 11, Razr Bankes, who is one of two lots by Jameson RS2. This colt’s grandmother is full sister to the legendary Jazz, and the line has produced further countless successful performance horses.
British Breeding Futurity
The British Breeding Baileys Horsefeeds Futurity is an evaluation series for British bred foals and youngstock from all studbooks. Entries are evaluated on the hard for correctness of limbs, gaits and foot balance by a senior veterinarian and a nutritionist, and on the soft for walk, trot and canter and frame by a team of evaluators of international standing and experience. The Futurity evaluation panel includes Hans-Heinrich Brüning from Germany and Rik van Miert from Belgium.
To qualify for the auction, entries had to receive high scores in their evaluation with an overall average of above 8. Linear scores and evaluators’ comments from the assessment are available on the British Breeding public database on british-breeding.com.

ClipMyHorse.tv will also livestream the physical auction, which will take place on 22 September from 18:00 BST at the newly developed BS National Training Centre in Leicestershire, Hothorpe, LE17 6QS.
Interested buyers are warmly invited to come to Hothorpe between 12:00 BST and 16:00 BST to view the auction lots and meet their breeders. The auction itself will start from 18:00 with a drinks reception followed by a Gala evening programme of stallion displays and live auction presentations.
Says Jane Skepper, director of British Breeding:
“British breeders have long since used an interesting cocktail of international stallions, as well as British based, up-and-coming talent. This auction is a great opportunity to showcase both. Where else can you go and in one and the same evening see not only the foal and its mother, but also the sire, and in one case even the mother of the sire?
“We are delighted that some of our stallion owners have agreed to join us for what is going to be no just an auction, but also a celebration of British breeding and an enjoyable and entertaining evening.”
Stallion Show
Invited stallions include Nikki Barker’s Grand Prix ride Durable, and the young talent Lestingsale VS (by Glamourdale), winner of the 2020 NexGen Hickstead Final who also has a foal in the auction, Lot 6 Sannabay’s Love Potion out of a Benvenuto mare whose grandmother is full sister of the stallion Donnerklang and the PSG horse Decantato, as well as half-sister of the stallions Pik Labionics and Decarpentry and of the mother of Diaggio.
Another invited stallion is the young Lollipop Dance, by Uthopia, who has the first lot in the auction, a filly called Living the Dream from another exceptional mare family. Her mother is half-sister of the Bundeschampionate winner Fürst Fabio. This mare family made British breeding history by producing the double World Breeding Champion Woodlander Farouche.
A truly exciting collection of foals who convince not only in movement and type, but who also have the pedigrees to match to offer buyers an exceptional investment opportunity for the future.
