At the last qualifier for the Preis der Besten Finals in Waredorf, May 24 to 26, 2002, some good old faces took home the trophies. In the Pony division, Stephanie Jansen won twice aboard her 2001 European Dressage Champion Dornik B
, beating Katharina Winkelhues on Dressman.
Junior rider Marion Engelen, who made a successful transfer from the pony division to junior riders, was victorious on Aaron. She beat former pony rider and team member Christina Thomas who saddled Exciting Amber. The unbeatable young rider in the world, Nicole Giesen, even proved to be the best in her division not aboard her number one horse Slow Fox, but this time on Roche.
Pony Team Chef d'equipe Cornelia Endres was very impressed by the quality of riders, the 2002 show season already offered. "Especially the qualifier in Ankum showed a strong field of competitors," Endres said. "But at the other qualifiers I also saw very interesting, young combinations, for instance the 14-year old Christin Schutte aboard Hoby who will compete at the CDI-P Aarhus. On the question, whether Endres already has teams in mind for the 2002 European Dressage Championships, she answered positively. "Yes, I can already give you an idea of a team. There were four combinations who scored more than 70% in the qualifiers: Annika Fiege and Konrad, Katharina Winkelheus with Dressman, Stephanie Janssen with Dornik B and Christine Sprehe with Diddi Keeps Cool." These four ponies already constituted the 2001 German Pony team but now there are two new riders.
