American Olympic team rider Steffen Peters has a new dressage star in his barn. Perters got the ride over Lombardi, a 12-year old Holsteiner gelding owned by Akiko Yamazaki from Woodside, Ca.

"I’m really excited about my new grand prix horse Lombardi " Peters said and praised the horse for its outstanding talent for the piaffe and passage.

Lombardi schools the Grand Prix but has not yet competed at that level. "He hasn’t done a Grand Prix yet, so this winter we’ll do the smaller ones. I got him about a year ago, and we did the Prix St. Georges and Intermediaire I, and he won every class. He’s a horse with three good gaits, but he’s still a little green. He is promising at home, but still has to prove himself at the shows,'" Peters explained.

Peters still has Floriano in his barn, the chestnut Westfalian gelding that helped him achieve the U.S. team alternate position for the 2004 Olympic Games. Floriano (by Florestan) came to Peters as a sales horse, but after their grand successes in 2004, the owner decided no longer to sell Floriano. They pair will be trying to qualify for the 2005 World Cup Finals in Las Vegas, USA.

Steffen is also riding the KWPN branded Marlando (by Balzflug) who is owned by his long time sponsor Lila Kommerstad, and the 4-year old Oldenburg stallion Lord Chalkhill, who belongs to Mr and Mrs. Furth. "Lord Chalkhill is a very exciting prospect. A very big thrill," Peters stated.

Steffen Peters got married to Shannon Barnes on September 18, 2004, and both operate a training and sales facility in Rancho Santa Fé, California.
