Double Dare at 2005 Elite Auction of Hanoverian Sport Horses

The top knock down price of 110,000 euro was achieved twice at the 112th Elite Auction of Hanoverian Sport Horses in Verden. The chestnut mare Wolkina, by Wolkentanz II out of Dancing Queen (Davignon x Weltmeyer), was the price highlight dressage horse.

The Hanoverian Verband reported that Wolkina sold to a "a renowned dressage barn with Olympic quality in Florida," but they did not released the name of the new owner. The only Floridian based Olympic dressage rider -- Robert Dover -- denied having purchased this horse.

The second top selling horse was Lohengrin, a 4-year old licensed stallion by Lordanos x Diskus. Bernhard Erdmann purchased the dark bay stallion for 110,000 euro and the horse will move to a show jumping barn in North Germany. Erdmann has been buying horses at Verden for many years and is also a title sponsor of the annual international show in Verden in July.

The 112th Elite Auction in Verden will go down in the books as a boring auction of mediocre quality. The 60 sold sport horses achieved an average price of 24,433 euro, but a large group of them were bought back by their owners as they didn't meet the reserve. Twenty-seven horses were sold abroad of which five will go to the United States.

Fortunately, the foal collection at the Elite Auction was more interesting and the top price of 34,000 euro raised the spirit of auctioneer Rainer Kiel. The top selling foal was Sapparino Hit, a Sandro Hit x Weltmeyer x Aarking xx colt, that sold to Austria. Fourty-seven foals were presented and the average price for a foal was 7,100 euro. Nineteen were sold abroad, five of them went to France.

A very remarkable trend noticeable at this Spring Elite Auction in Verden is that all the top selling horses are by Oldenburg based stallions and not by Hanoverians: Lordanos, Wolkentanz II and Sandro Hit.
