Peter Storr's Grand Prix horse Gambrinus died unexpectedly in his sleep on December 1, 2006. The 15-year old Hanoverian gelding by Grosso Z most likely suffered from a haemorrhage, but Peter Storr and Gambrinus owner, Mrs Pinky Heintz, decided not to carry out a necropsy.
Gambrinus was retired from competition in July 2006 after a successful career at Grand Prix level. Storr took the British national title in 2000 and 2001 and represented Britain at the 2001 European Championships and 2002 World Equestrian Games.
"Having ridden Gambrinus since he was three years old, we had formed a unique bond together," Storr told British equestrian magazine Horse and Hound. "I feel that I've lost my best friend. He took me on a fantastic journey through his career."
Gambrinus' sudden death was the second blow for Storr in a short time. In November Peter broke several ribs falling off a playful youngster. Despite these two misfortunes, Storr did get good news that he is now team trainer of the British Pony Dressage Team.
