A tragic accident has ended the life of the licensed Trakehner stallion Key West. The grey stallion by Stradivari out of PS Kateja (by Inschallah AA x Mahagoni) was bred by Ingeborg Wöhrl in Germany and was owned by Klosterhof Medingen.

He had been leased to the French stud of Dr. Dirk Längle, where the accident took place.

According to preliminary reports on Trakehners-International.com, Key West got out of his paddock and back into the barn and was playing with sire Stradivari through the stall door when he ran into a metal pole sticking out and slashed his throat, bleeding to death.

Key West was one of the more interesting young Trakehner stallions standing at stud at the moment. He already sired several exceptional daughters, and good performance horses. Key West's full brother K2 was the champion of the 2001 Trakehner Stallion Licensing in Neumünster.

"His pedigree was one of the few with a significant amount of outside blood in it, carrying a great deal of excellent, proven Angloarabian blood through his dam sire Inschallah AA and his sire's sire Upan la Jarthe AA, a half brother to the famous Matcho AA," wrote Maren Engelhardt of Trakehners International.
