Maree Tomkinson’s 16-year-old Grand Prix dressage horse Lanzaro died unexpectedly last week at his home stable in Australia. The 16-year old Holsteiner stallionhad only arrived down under from Europe last October and was in work ready to compete this season.
Lanzaro (by Lavall I x Ladalco) was brought to FEI level by Alexandra Bimschas. Maree and Jenny Johnston purchased the stallion in 2007 through her trainer Jurgen Koschel and campaigned him at Grand Prix shows in Europe until she brought him home in late 2008.
They were members of the 2008 Australian Dressage Elite Squad and will be remembered as members of the Australian Dressage Team who, for the first time, qualified Australia for a team place at the 2008 Olympic Games.
