An MRI scan late yesterday afternoon confirmed that Olympic Dressage rider Heath Ryan suffered a minor stroke last Sunday.
Heath who represented Australia at the 2008 Olympic Games and more recently at the FEI World Cup Dressage Final in Las Vegas in April was at a competition in Camden, NSW when he became unwell. He was taken to Campbelltown hospital.
Heath’s wife Rozzie said "his doctors have said that he should be able to make a 100% recovery quite quickly provided he doesn’t overdo it.”
At present his speech is perfectly normal but he is still suffering some dizziness.
Ryan underwent the MRI at Campbelltown Hospital yesterday afternoon (May 19, 2009). He will now be moving to the John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle where a leading neurologist will assess his situation further.
Rozzie would like to extend thanks to everyone for their support. "We have been totally overwhelmed by so many kind people. Everyone has been wonderful, it is beyond words."
We wish Heath a speedy recovery.
