2009 U.S. Dressage Championships

On 1 June 2009, the United States Equestrian Federation released the final national dressage ranking lists with the top ranked combinations that qualified for the 2009 American Dressage Championships

, also known as the Festival of Champions, held June 18 – 21, 2009 in Gladstone, New Jersey. The U.S. Dressage Championships are ridden at five levels: Grand Prix, Intermediaire I, Brentina Cup (Young Riders Grand Prix), Young Riders and Junior riders level.

Major absentees on the Grand Prix ranking list are the U.S. Olympic team riders Steffen Peters with Ravel, Courtney King-Dye on Mythilus, and Debbie McDonald on Brentina. The latter rider officially retired her mare Brentina at the 2009 World Cup Finals. King's Mythilus underwent heart surgery after the Olympic Games and has not been competed since the summer of 2008. Steffen Peters and Ravel will be heading the U.S. dressage team at the 2009 CDIO Aachen in Germany two weeks after the national championships. He will be joining Catherine Haddad (on Cadillac) and Jane Hannigan (on Maksymilian) to represent the U.S.A. in the Aachen Nations' Cup the first week of July 2009.
