In May 2010 the Lipica Stud Farm, home of one of the world’s most famous breed of horses, the Lippizaner, celebrates its 430th anniversary. As the beautiful showgrounds of the historic stud in Slovenia get some last minute grooming, competitors from all over Europe are packing their trucks ready to head south.
Lipica has hosted regular world cup qualifiers for a number of years and is always a popular show. This years line up is impressive and headed by the in-form Hiscox Artemis, ridden by Richard Davison, who will be looking for their next big win.
The combination is on a winning streak having already five CDI Kur victories under their belt, with scores in excess of 75%. Their Elton John and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic arrangement is both emotional and striking and much admired by both judges and audiences alike.
Speaking about the forthcoming show, Davison enthused “I’m really looking forward to it. I know many of my colleagues make the trip each year but it’s a long time since I was last there. Actually, it was back in 1993 for the European Championships when we took the silver medal. So it holds fond memories for me.”
Hiscox Artemis is owned by the Countess of Derby, famous for her family’s connection with the classic horse race, and John Dodd. Hiscox, the specialist insurer, is the proud sponsor of Hiscox Artemis and has committed to backing Davison and the
horse for the next three years.
