Eurodressage correspondent Barbara Schnell went to the CDI Wiesbaden on Sunday and Monday and captured the Young Riders classes and Grand Prix for Special. Check out her selection of photographs with comments in our photo gallery:

Matthias Alexander Rath and Sterntaler Unicef (by Sion x Manstein) won the Grand Prix for Special scoring 73.915% and just edging out Isabell Werth on Madeleine Winter Schulze's 16-year old Hanoverian gelding Satchmo (73.319%).

Barbara made note that Canadian Belinda Trussell was the surprise rider in the Grand Prix for Special. First of all she was the only GP rider who warmed up her horse wearing a helmet (!!). Furthermore, she showed a lovely and almost flawless ride aboard Anton with some wonderful piaffe work, the kind the judges don't see very often these days. Sadly, she went a bit under-rated, but that's dressage

According to many the highlight of the 2010 CDI Wiesbaden was not the Grand Prix but the Young Riders class, especially the Kur to Music in which Fabienne Lutkemeier rode a Young Riders World Record Score of 81.350%. She saddled the sympathetic liver chesnut D'Agostino and beat Sanneke Rothenberger on Deveraux OLD, who premiered her brand new Cees Slings' arranged freestyle.

Edward Gal and Totilas finish another great ride

Monica Theodorescu should be able to score higher with Whisper. The piaffe lacked some pezzazz but the extended walk and pirouettes were phenomenal.

Hubertus Schmidt struggled to keep the contact light and steady. The chestnut gelding almost constantly had his mouth open. The transitions and regularity in piaffe and passage are normally better. The canterwork was excellent

Tinne Vilhelmson and Favourit were unable to convince with their lacklustre piaffe. There was also a mistake in the first flying change in the zig zag which pushed their score down.

There was no pop in Pop Art at Rotterdam. Holzer's ride was all sugar and spice, but it missed oomph. It needed a bit more push in the piaffe, more ground cover in the one tempi's, just a bit more expression in general.

British Fiona Bigwood and Wie Atlantica are fighting for a British WEG team spot. The transitions to and from piaffe and passage were a bit difficult and the transition from passage to canter went wrong. The passage was lovely though

Uwe Mechlem's years of judging experience is being used on the Judging Supervisory Panel
