In piaffe the horse becomes narrow behind and in the first transition to passage the bay became irregular. The one tempi's showed tension in the topline. Imke Schellekens-Bartels and Sunrise slotted in fifth with an effortlessly looking ride which lacked expression. The piaffe and passage were lacklustre but Imke was able to score with excellent canter work. Great zig zag and super tempi changes. Christoph Koschel and Donnperignon excelled in the passage, reinback and walk tour. There was a slight loss of rhythm in the half pass right. The first piaffe was rhythmical and regular, in the second and third the rider sat stiff & cramped in the saddle. Matthias Rath & Sterntaler had a loss of rhythm in the first extended trot and half pass right. The first piaffe was ok, but in the second the horse jerked his right hind high. The canterwork was excellent but they didn't do enough steps of piaffe at X. Balkenhol & Dablino were good but not great. The passage and piaffe were lovely and regular but judges were only willing to give 7s for them. The walk was tense and not so clear in rhythm and the change after the extended canter was in 2 phases. Victoria Max-Theurer on Augustin. The massive bay is such a high-quality sleep but he was lulled to sleep during this ride. The trot extensions were powerless despite their buoyancy. He also stalled in passage. In piaffe he has amazing sit. Belgian Jeroen Devroe and Apollo van het Vijverhof exceeded the expectations. Their ride was soft and sweet with smooth piaffe and passage. Only in the one tempi's the young dark bay gelding got behind the vertical. Valentina Truppa and her chunky Eremo del Castegno has a fantastic piaffe and passage with much elevation and power. The Italian bred Rohdiamant son took off in the two tempi's and the pirouettes could have been better. American Tina Konyot and Calecto V came to Aachen to see where they stand amongst the world's best riders. They finished 14th in the Grand Prix with 68.602% American Todd Flettrich and Otto (Danish warmblood by Rambo x Rampal) were loved by the crowds and judges. In the middle of their test they were standing at 70% but they lost points after some mistakes in the canter. Florida based Dane Mikala Gundersen shipped Horses Unlimited's Leonberg to Europe in an attempt to qualify for the Danish team for WEG. After Aachen they will compete in the Danish Dressage Championships in Broholm. In their campaign for WEG team qualification, Australian Lyndal Oatley and Potifar had to put in a strong ride in the Aachen Grand Prix. The pair scored 65.106% Children of a Lesser God: Swedish pair Annette Christensen and Normandie are not a well known star pair, but their piaffe absolutely deserves a 10. However "no name no game" and the judges with their blurred vision only scored it 7. The legendary Dr. Uwe Schulten-Baumer senior visited Aachen O-judge Katrina Wüst
