Oldenburg Breeding News

As 2010 draws to a close the American Oldenburg society looks back on an incredible year for Oldenburg breeders, owners, trainers and riders who are being recognized in the Year End Award Programs.

The Year End Awards are very special, because they represent an immense amount of dedication and consistency.

All of those long drives with the trailer, dealing with the heat, cold, rain and mud, very early wake-up calls, braiding seemingly in the middle of the night, difficult warm-up situations, etc. can be tough to say the least, but the American Oldenburg Year End Awardees have all shown they can handle it and come out shining!

Sandro Hit, 2010 USEF Dressage Sire of the Year

Thanks to exceptional dressage horses such as the Grand Prix mare, Sandrina, ridden by Jan Ebeling, the FEI 5 year old USDF HOY, Suntreader, and many, many more, the Oldenburg stallion, Sandro Hit, was the USEF Dressage Sire of the Year, and he won it with a vengeance with 3805 points, almost 1000 points higher than the second placed stallion.

The 4th placed stallion in this category was the Oldenburg stallion, Contango, whose son, Ravel, has been incredibly successful under rider, Steffen Peters. The internationally successful Grand Prix Oldenburg stallion, Don Schufro is listed in 11th place and his Oldenburg son, Diamond Hit is 12th.

USEF Dressage Breeders of the Year

Many of the American Oldenburg members also did very well in the Year End Breeders categories. A very special moment in the upcoming USEF convention and awards ceremony will certainly be when the late Angela Barilar of High Point Hanoverians is awarded with being 3rd nationally USEF Dressage Breeder of the Year. Angela passed away this past July, and we send out best to her husband, John, daughter, Larissa, and her partner Klaus Schengber who we know are missing her more than ever during the holidays. This award is certainly well-earned and shows what a powerhouse Angela was in the world of dressage breeding.

Also placing in the USEF Breeder of the Year awards is Maurine Swanson of Rolling Stone Farm who was 6th in Dressage. Maurine or "Mo" was also 7th in the Dressage Owners category. Melanie Pai was back again this year placing 9th in Dressage, and was 3rd in the Dressage Owners category. Hilltop Farm was 7th in the Breeder of the Year Dressage and also placed 10th in the Dressage Breeding category.

Dressage was not the only strong suit of Oldenburg breeders. Margaret Rose Sherman or "Meg" as we like to call her, was 3rd Breeder of the Year in the Hunter Breeding category thanks to the success of Sinsational Fox and Drum Roll Please. Sharon Will of "Relatively Stable" farm in Ocala, Florida was honored as being 7th on the list of Breeders of the Year for Eventing after the resounding success of her horses, Absolute Liberty and No More Rocks who were ridden by Buck Davidson.
