Three colts have been accepted for breeding for the German Trakehner Verband following a positive approval at the 2011 Trakehner Spring Stallion Licensing in Munster-Handorf, Germany, on 12-13 February 2011.
The Trakehner Verband traditionally hosts a second approval event every February and in 2011, fourteen stallions were listed to appear before the commission around breed director Lars Gehrmann. These groups usually include TB and Arabian stallions, performance-proven older stallions and youngsters that were too immature in the previous fall or already passed a 30 day test. In 2011, the commission approved three stallions.
The 3-year old black Russian Deal (by Long Deal out of State Premium mare Razzmataz R (by Hockey), bred and owned by Gestüt Hellerholz, Alveslohe) impressed as a light-footed, highly talented jumper with an exceptional pedigree. Also approved was the recent German re-import Herzberg (by E.H. Leonardo o/o Hetra by Persaldo, bred by Anton Urnau of Saarwellingen, owned by Jürgen Hoffmann, Coesfeld).
The 18-year old stallion was exported to the US as a youngster, competed at international Grand Prix dressage level under Jennifer Hoffmann and relocated back to Germany with his owners earlier this year. He is already approved by the Rhineland-Palatinate Studbook and the Oldenburg Verband.
The third approved stallion was the Anglo-Arabian Ismahn AA (by Markek x out of Inka AA (by Bouquet AA), bred and owned by Thomas Wehner of Mittelkalbach). This very elegant bay stallion carries some of the most performance proven Anglo- and Shayga Arabian bloodlines and offers an interesting outcross alternative for the Trakehner breed, which has a closed studbook and can only be bred to English and Arabian Thoroughbred for outside blood.
