Boy de Winter of Dutch hat company L'Hiver is the first to bring on the market a safety top hat with chin strap that looks like a stylish standard top hat but is also approved to meet EN1384 safety standards by assessors TNO and Tüv.
For more than 5 generations, the traditional craftsmen of L'Hiver have been creating custom-made headwear for customers in film, theatre, opera and equestrian groups. Every L'Hiver hat is tailored exclusively in their workshop in Uden, The Netherlands, and orders are only taken by appointment with delivery typically within 3-6 months.
L'Hiver has now brought out a "safety hat" in blue and brown, which they launched at the 2011 CDI-W/CSI-W in 's Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands.
"We've been working on the hats for five years, but sped up due to public demand after Courtney King-Dye's accident," Mr de Winter told Horse and Hound. "As far as we are aware this is a world premier."
