The KWPN society reported with great sadness the sudden death of Maarten van den Bosch (53), treasurer of the KWPN board. On 12 April 2011 he was competing in the jump-off of the Asten Horse Show, when he suddenly fell ill and subsequently passed away.
In 2008, Maarten, who made his home in Handel, became a KWPN board member. However, his involvement with the KWPN began many years earlier, when he rode stallions born in the S- and T years in the performance test and conducted research on the profitability of stud farms. In addition, Maarten was involved in founding the Breeding Council and was one of its members. A horse breeder, he served on the board until early 1999. In 2008, Maarten rejoined the KWPN board, serving as treasurer. He contributed a great deal to the board, including securing the KWPN's new location in Ermelo.
Maarten was actively involved in several equestrian organizations for years. Last week, upon his departure as Chairman of the Dutch Equestrian Education Foundation, he was awarded the golden KNHS pin as a token of appreciation and gratitude for his great dedication to equestrian sports.
Furthermore, Maarten was the Director of Rabobank Peel North, the result of a merger. He was also active on the Rabobank board.
Throughout his life, Maarten was an active horse show competitor. He kept horses at home and rode several to Z-level in all three disciplines. Today at the horse show in Asten, he literally died with his boots on when he became ill as he was riding his horse in the jump-off, resulting in his tragic death.
His colleagues from the Board and KWPN management valued his great enthusiasm, financial expertise, and level-headed attitude. His integrity and congenial personality will be greatly missed. We remember him with admiration and respect.
Our thoughts go out to his wife Franca and their children, and we wish all Maarten's relatives much strength in this time of great loss.
