The Dutch Dressage Championships are moving location following major complaints about this year's organisation of the Nationals in De Steeg, The Netherlands. As the contract was up for renewel, the Dutch Equestrian Federation decided to drop De Steeg as venue
and relocate the show at a brand new event in Hoofddorp, The Netherlands.
The major dressage classes were scheduled very early in the morning which meant that hardly a crowd showed up to watch the tests. Furthermore, the entire sound system broke down during the small tour finals disrupting the tests of several medal candidates.
A few days ago a group of riders and sponsors sent out a press release in support of Outdoor Gelderland in De Steeg. Show director Jan de Vries communicated that they had big plans for the competition. For instance, they wanted to install permanent show rings for the dressage arenas and main stadium. De Vries also said that they were interested in hosting the World Young Dressage Horse Championships in De Steeg. The fact that they had to move the date to August would not have been a problem.
The Dutch Equestrian Federation has decided to relocate the Championships to Hoofddorp for the next three years.
