Only a very small group of dressage stables was able to impress at this year's mediocre 2011 Hanoverian Stallion Licensing, in which the show jumpers outshone the dressage horses for the first time in many years. The premium stallion De l'Or (by Dancier x Rotspon) stood out from the crowd and also became the top seller at the auction.

The Hanoverian stallion selection committee had picked a group of 87 stallions for the licensing but many were old fashioned models with slow movements from behind. Only a few colts embodied current-day dressage horse breeding with their body elasticity, modern looks and electric hind legs. The committee approved 47 stallions and 15 became premium stallions, of which seven were dressage horses.

The star of the licensing was the chestnut De L'Or (by Dancier x Rotspon x Argentan). The athletic chestnut showed much spring from the ground and power from behind. After a bidding duel with clients from Australia, this premium stallion sold at auction for the top knock down price of 315,000 euro to Kristin Andresen from Norway who works together with the Danish Katrinelund stallion station.

The crowd pleaser and most liked jumper was the gorgeous black colt by Valentino x Acorado. The stallion was acquired by the Celle State Stud for 270,000 euro.

The premium dressage stallions were:

  • Belconi (by Belissimo M x Rubin-Royal) -  sold for 70,000€ to Nordrhine-Westfalen
  • Bodyguard (by Burlington x Pik L) -  sold for  78,000€ to Herman Seiger, The Netherlands
  • De L'Or (by Dancier x Rotspon) - 315,000€ to Norway
  • Divine Etincelle (by Desperados x A Jungle Prince)  -  sold for 70,000€ to Austria
  • Fiderfurst (by Fidertanz x Friedensfürst)   -  sold for 105,000€ to  Australia
  • Freddie Mercury (by Fidertanz x Stedinger)  -  sold for 33,000€ to Hessia
  • Londontime x  Florestan  -  sold for 70,000 € to Priess Stuteri in Denmark

The 44 licensed stallions sold at auction for an average price of 64,590 euro, while the 38 non-licensed stallions sold for an average price of 20,378 euro. Austrians bought four stallions, while three move to Denmark, including the Furst Grandios x Weltmeyer, which was acquired by Blue Hors Stud for 90,000 euro. Two stallions sold to Belgium, Australia, Norway and Russia.

The most expensive non-licensed stallion was the Furst Nymphenburg x Mont du Cantal AA, which the committee wanted to approve but could not due to a testicle problem. He sold for 82,000 euro to a Lower Saxony based dressage rider.
