With the announcement that the hyped 5-year old Oldenburg stallion Jack Sparrow would not be participating in the 2012 KWPN Spring Stallion Performance Test, major concern arose amongst breeders in Germany and Holland, which have already inseminated their mares with this stallion.
The black Johnson x Wolkentanz II stallion was initially approved with the South German studbook following an under saddle licensing on 6 October 2010. Originally owned by breeder Hugo Schmidgall in partnership with Wolfgang Tschöpe, the stallion sold to The Netherlands in September 2011, where he competed under Gal in the KWPN Stallion Competition in order to obtain licensing.
With no stallion performance test carried out either in Germany nor in Holland, Jack Sparrow is not officially licensed for breeding.
If current breeders choose for Jack Sparrow this 2012 breeding season, their 2013 born foals will not be registered with any Dutch or German studbook as the stallion is unapproved. It is therefore essential for the breeders that the black stallion carries out a performance test in 2012.
Jack Sparrow is extremely popular and heavily promoted in the Oldenburg area. However, Oldenburg breeding director Katrin Burger told Eurodressage that, "we can't register the foals in 2013 if the stallion hasn't done a test till then."
Jack Sparrow's studbook manager Semira Noman reassures that "we are currently discussing with the KWPN if he can do the autumn stallion performance testing. As soon as we have received an official answer from the KWPN, we'll launch an official press release. Jack Sparrow will definitely do a stallion performance test this year, so there will always be papers for the foals born in 2013."
