The black elite Trakehner stallion Angard passed away at age 26 at the end of February 2012. The gorgeous black stallion is originally Hessian branded and was the first stallion with a "foreign" brand to be proclaimed Elite Sire by the Trakehner society in 1999.
Angard was born in 1986 at Manfred Fischer's barn Hof Zwiefalten in Schotten-Eichelsachsen, Germany. He was sired by Anduc out of Gundula (by Gunnar x Helianthus x Jason). Angard did his stallion performance test in Warendorf in 1989 and scored an index of 109.87 points which ranked him 7th out of 21 participants. He ended up being approved by the Trakehner society in Hörstein in 1991.
His entire career Angard stood at Gestüt Jagdschloß Zwiefalten but in 2006 Dr. Marion Lembecke took over ownership from Fischer.
Angard was trained to S-level by Christoph Brückmann and occasionally riding by German based Dutch Olympian Ellen Bontje.
Angard sired approved sons including Offensiv, Herzfunke, Isgard (France), Galileonidas (ZSAA, ZfdP), Almaz (Hessia), Avancier (Hessia), and Andarc (Hessia).
His most famous daughter is the black Grand Prix winner Olivia TSF (out of a Heuriger dam). As a dam sire, Angard is best known for his grand son Axis TSF ridden by Finnish Grand Prix rider Terhi Stegars. German junior Isabelle Kettner won team gold with Avangard (by Angard x Mahagoni) at the 2000 European Junior Riders Championships in Lipica, Slovenia.
