Olympic gold medal winner Ingrid Klimke is one of the top stars of this year’s Global Dressage Forum. The name ‘Klimke‘ is legendary in the dressage world. Ingrid Klimke is both a successful Grand Prix rider in dressage and a top event rider.
In London she won the gold medal in eventing with the German team. She will show some uncommon tools for dressage training, such as the use of cavaletti’s, during the Global Dressage Forum on 29-30 October 2012 in Hooge Mierde, the Netherlands.
Although educated to be a banker, Ingrid started her equestrian career in three disciplines, eventing, jumping and dressage. She will share her unique equestrian experience with the audience at the Global Dressage Forum and provide an insight into her gaining methods. Ingrid will focus on the warming up and schooling of horses based on the famous German riding scale, and show some uncommon tools for dressage training. An eye opener for most participants will be the use of cavaletti’s, wooden poles normally just used by jumpers „to create motivation and engagement of the hind legs of my horses to improve the quality of the gaits and create cadence and elasticity”, says Ingrid Klimke.
Ingrid will give practical demonstrations, together with her student Sophie Leube, with the 6 years old approved stallion called ‘Sir Schiwago’. Ingrid will ride the 8 years old gelding ‘Dresden Man’ on which horse she won the Prix St. Georges in Hagen. She has 12 horses at her stable near Munster in Germany.
"Half of the horses in training are dressage and the other half are eventing horses," said the 44-year old. As a ‘young horse specialist’ Ingrid has loved being part of many young horses' lives as they journey all the way to top eventing or top Grand Prix. “Damon Hill was the most talented and willing horse I have ever brought up to be a Grand Prix winner”. Ingrid and Damon Hill won the 2006 World Young Horse Championships in Verden. This year Damon Hill was the Olympic dressage horse of Ingrid’s compatriot Helen Langehanenberg, finishing fourth in the Londen Olympics.
Ingrid will meet her compatriot on 29-30 October, as Helen Langehanenberg is also presenting a clinic during the Global Dressage Forum in Hooge Mierde. The organising Global Dressage Foundation, Presided by Her Royal Higness Princess Benedikte of Danmark, has announced that it is proud to present one of the best programs in its 12 year history.
