Don Massimo, High Scorer at the 2013 Norwegian Warmblood Stallion Licensing

Dressage stallions with Norwegian as well as foreign roots stood out at the Norwegian warmblood stallion licensing held at Lefdal begin April 2013. The Norwegian licensing last for five days and is open to Norwegian bred colts as well as foreign registered stallions.

A 3-year old stallion gets a breeding license for two years while a 4-year old stallion gets a license for one year. Older stallions that were previously Norwegian approved or already licensed with another studbook undergo a 3-day performance test at the licensing. .Seven Norwegian warmblood stallions, of which three were jumpers and four were dressage colts, participated in this testing.

The licensing committee includes Cecilie Kilde and foreign assessors Rob Ehrens and Wim Ernes. The two Dutchmen also judged the Norwegian Warmblood Young Horse Championship, which took place during the licensing.

Two 3-year olds were presented at the licensing but neither got licensed. They were jumper Solbakkens Dragonheart (by Heartbeat x Carolus I) bred by Nina Paulsen and owned by Tobajo Sporthorses, and dressage stallion Rakatschi (by JJ Rayban x Akatschi), bred by Monica Engebretsen and owned by Ida M. Gamre. The stallion approval committee recommended Rakatschi's owner to showing the stallion again when it has been a little more developed in the body.

The dressage stallion Tobajo Pik Disney II (by Tobajo Picez x Walt Disney I) stood out in the 4-year old colt category. The chestnut stallion is owned by Trude Hestengen. He received a rideability score of 10 from test rider Nikolai Kowalski. He also got 8,5 for walk, 9 for trot, 9 for canter and 9 for potential. The stallion were approved for breeding with a conformation index of 8,5, and a dressage index of 9,1.

Tobajo Pik Disney II took a grand slam during the week as he also was the winner of the 2013 Norwegian Warmblood Young Horse Championship for 4-year olds. The 5-year old champion was Dana (by Dancier x Walt Disney I), bred by Mariann Sælid and owned by Rebecca and Anita J. Rowley.

JJ Hamsun (by Blue Hors Hotline x Sandro Hit) stood out in the older stallion category. He was shown for the second time and got his breeding license renewed for an additional five years. He received a conformation index of 8,5 and a dressage index of 8,4. The stallion received a 9 for type and 9 for canter under the rider. JJ Hamsun is bred by JJ Horses and owned by Triumph Horses. The stallion is trained and competed by Norwegian Grand Prix rider Jonas Elvebakk and Lars Lindoe.

The Westfalian stallion Belamour (by Belissimo M x Lord Sinclair) owned by Kristin G. Andresen got approved with a conformation index of 8 and a dressage index of 8,6. He also earned a 9 for rideability and capacity. The stallion is ridden and competed by Norwegian junior rider Alexandra Andresen.

The Oldenburg stallion Don Massimo (by Don Larino x Santander H) received a conformation index of 9 and a dressage index of 8,9, in addition to a  9,5 score for potential. He has been accepted for Norwegian breeding with the highest scores awarded at the licensing. The dark bay stallion was initially competed by Belgian Larissa Pauluis but recently sold to Norwegian junior rider Elise Klaesson. He is owned by Kristin Andresen and IPS Horse Group.

The 21-year old Westfalian stallion Rubiquil (by Rubinstein I x Roemer) has been approved for life based on his own competition career, as well as the results of his offspring. He received a conformation index of 8.0.

In addition to the stallion approval, the week was filled with young horse competitions and clinics. Riders and owners of young horses were given valuable input on how to train and educate their young horses by both Rob Ehrens and Wim Ernes who conducted a jumping and a dressage clinic as well as gave feedback to the audience and riders during the Young Horse championship.
