After a sixth place in yesterday's CDI3* Grand Prix Special with Divertimento, Swedish superstar Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfven and Antonia Ax:son Johnson's Hanoverian gelding Don Auriello came in first place in the CDI WDM Grand Prix at the 2013 CDI Munich on Friday 10 May 2013. Vilhelmson posted a score of 76,043%.
The weather conditions changed for the worse overnight. In cold and rainy Munich the world's dressage elite showed their perseverance. Tinne and Don Auriello, who are ranked second in the WDM Rider Ranking were sixth to go in the Grand Prix. At that time Austrian Renate Voglsang was in the lead with 70,638%. Fellow Swede Patrik Kittel, who is in the lead in the WDM Rider Ranking, and Jan Greve's Dutch warmblood stallion Scandic (by Solos Carex x Amiral) were the last ones to go before the break. They had some mistakes and scored 71,511%.
The weather got worse after the break. Pouring rain and dark skies accompanied Isabell Werth and Madeleine Winter-Schulze's Hanoverian gelding Don Johnson (by Don Frederico x Warkant) when they entered the arena. Isabell made some rider mistakes and finished on 73,107% .
Young German Jessica Werndl, who competed in the Under 25 classes in Munich for two years, did a super test with Swiss judge Beatrice Burchler-Keller's Dutch bred horse Unee (by Gribaldi). She got a score of 71,192% which got her in 7th place. Valentina and Eremo del Castegno underlined their top 10 position in the world. A wonderful test and a score of 75,085% brought them in 2nd place. The podium was completed with Victoria Max-Theurer and her Hanoverian mare Blind Date (by Breitling x Donnerhall).
In the press conference after the Grand Prix Vici Max-Theurer told the media that she had decided to do the Special instead of the Kur much to the regret of her Munich fans. Her new kur will be ready in a short while. Both Tinne Vilhelmson and Valentina Truppa will be in the kur on Sunday.
The WDM Rider Ranking will be decided on Sunday in the Kur. Patrik Kittel and Tinne Vilhelmson are only 7 points apart. Patrik will want to make up for his mistakes in the GP so we expect to witness an exciting battle. The winner of the ranking earns an extra 25,000 euro.
