The Holsteiner licensed stallion Leandro has passed away at age 28 at his home Susanne and Helmer Sunesen's Stutteri Thy in Denmark. Leandro was born in 1985 and passed away last Thursday 30 May 2013.
The dark bay Leandro (by Landgraf I x Sawaro xx) only briefly stood at stud in Germany and stayed almost his entire life - 22 years - in Denmark. The Danish warmblood society proclaimed him elite stallion in 1997.
Despite his show jumping pedrigree he produced a remarkable amount of high quality dressage horses. In Denmark he sired gold medal mares Le Fantastique and Stenagers Latoya and he has six licensed sons, of which the most famous one is Judy Ann Melchior's show jumper Levisto and the Danish licensed champion Blue Hors Leredo, who is now at Grand Prix level under Maria Anita Andersen.
Leandro's most famous dressage offspring is without a doubt Uta Gräf's German B-team stallion Le Noir (by Leandro x Caletto I), Falk Stankus' Grand prix horse Lancelot (by Leandro x Montevideo), the American based Grand Prix horse Karola (by Leandro x Farnese), Pernille Orum's GP horse Lumiere (by Leandro x Reichsgraf) and Trude Hestengens GP horse Le Mont H (by Leandro x Raimondo).
