Rose Mathisen's Grand Prix stallion Bocelli (by Don Schufro x Bernstein) has been operated on for inguinal hernia one week ago. He will no longer be available for breeding this season.

The 14-year old dark bay Swedish warmblood stallion has had a run of bad luck recently. On 27 December 2011 he had to undergo colic surgery. Right after the 2013 Swedish Dressage Championships at the beginning of June he sustained a minor injury and last week Bocelli showed signs of colic after covering and was rushed to the equine clinic. The veterinarians diagnosed him with inguinal hernia, a case often happening to breeding stallions. It can be prevented by having the width of the inguinal ring on one's stallion checked.

According to Ridehesten.com Bocelli's owner Gränsbo Stuteri applied for a dispensation from the regulations of the Swedish Board of Agriculture with the Swedish Warmblood Society. The rules prohibit stallions with ingenuinal hernia to return to breeding as they consider the condition  heritable.
