British 2010 World Equestrian Games team member Fiona Bigwood has acquired a new rising Grand Prix horse in Denmark, the 8-year old Danish bred Orthilia (by Gribaldi x Donnerschlag x Rambo).
Bred and owned by Kristine Munch Sinding, Orthilia was born in Denmark but also represented the Oldenburg breed society. As a 3-year old she was a Brilliant ring finalists at the 2009 Oldenburg Elite Mare Show in Rastede. As a 4-year old she finished sixth in the Danish Young Horse Championships and was also a finalists as a 6-year old. As a youngster, Orthilia was competed by Maria Falkner Hansen and Katrine Sandholt Moller.
Orthilia made her first and only international headline so far when European Young Rider champion Cathrine Dufour started campaigning her at small tour level. Dufour received the ride on the dark bay mare in the summer of 2012 and in April 2013 the duo finished second twice at the 2013 CDI Addington. The pair won the 2013 Danish Young Riders Championships in Ringsted.
Bigwood tried out Orthilia for the first time in April 2013 but, according to Horse2rider, was initially looking for a more experienced Grand Prix horse. When she couldn't find her choice, she returned to Orthilia and has now purchased the mare.
Orthilia will arrive at Fiona's farm Bourne Hill on Wednesday 9 October. "I am very excited. She is hot to ride so my sort of horse," Fiona told Eurodressage.
