Doug and Louise Leatherdale's 10-year old licensed stallion Herzensdieb has been proclaimed Elite Trakehner Stallion at the 2013 Trakehner Stallion Licensing in Neumunster, Germany, on Saturday 19 October 2013.
Herzensdieb (by Tambour x Tivano x Gipsy King) was the 2005 Trakehner Licensing Champion and sold to the Leatherdales at the auction following the licensing for 275,000 euro. He did his Stallion Performance Test in Schlieckau in 2006 and finished second overall out of 33 participants with a dressage index of 133.56 and a jumping index of 111.90.
"Herzensdieb owns all the grandeur and the qualities to ennoble again the Hanoverian breed," said owner Doug Leatherdale. "Impeccable bloodlines, noble, elegant and distinguished, Herzensdieb proved, at the age of only 10, that he was - and obviously still is - one of the best stallions in the world."
Trained by Steffen Frahm, the 10-year old Herzensdieb has done remarkably little showing in his career. He was only very briefly competed between 2006 and 2009 and hasn't been out in the show ring since then.
Herzensdieb's get has received numerous accolades, with two young stallions approved by the Trakehner Verband, including one who was approved by the Hanoverian stud book, and 36 daughters who have successfully produced foals introduced into the Trakehner studbook. His famous offspring in the show ring right now are the French owned Hilario Saint and Feistkorn's Bundeschampionate finalist Herzensfurst.
