Last week, at a Member's Dinner at the International Polo Club in Palm Beach, Florida, the 2013 Year End Awards were announced by the United States PRE Association. Breed Awards are determined annually by points obtained in ANCCE-sanctioned breed shows. Breeder of the Year is also determined by points and winnings at breed shows.
These awards will be presented to their recipients at a reception at the Feria del Caballo Español show in City of Industry in June. The Merit Awards are designated by the Board of Directors and based on member recommendations.
This year, USPRE is proud to announce the 2013 Year End Award winners:
Champion Mare- Elegida de Trujillo (103.33) owned by Yeguada Trujillo
Champion Stallion- Revoltoso LXXVIII(98.5) owned by Rancho El Encanto
Functionality Champion- Ciclon IX owned by Rancho El Encanto
Breeder of the Year- Rancho Armendariz
Horse/Rider of the Year: Janne Rumbough and "Junior"-Janne Rumbough is a founder of USPRE and a long-time FEI Dressage competitor and ambassador for PRE Horses in the Dressage community. This past year, she and her home-bred gelding Junior, by her own Gaucho III, accomplished one of the highest distinctions for Adult Amateur competitors in this country: They were 2013 USDF Adult Amateur Reserve National Champions for Grand Prix. Junior, by Gaucho III, has been trained through the levels to Grand Prix by Janne herself. Together they are also the USEF Performance Horse Registry Grand Prix Champions and currently ranked in the International FEI rankings.
Member of the Year: Margot Reynolds-Margot Reynolds, of Las Cumbres Ranch in Texas, is tireless in her support of USPRE, attending every annual event, manning our booths at Virginia and IALHA, and acting as Secretary this past year for our new Breeders Executive Committee. Margot is stepping down temporarily from the BEC and from breeding due to a shoulder injury, but we look forward to her return when she is fully mended. We believe this is the right time to honor her for her hard work for our horse and our association.
Equestrian of the Year: Robert Dover. Robert Dover's name is synonymous with American Dressage, and he is the first National Team Trainer outside of Spain to publicly endorse the PRE horse for world-class competition. Robert is a 6-time US Olympian and medalist, PRE horse owner and USPRE member/ANCCE Breeder, and Advisory Board member who has assisted us in our Scholarship Program and our USPRE week, year after year. This is the second time USPRE has recognized Robert for his contributions, as he continues to genuinely endorse the PRE horse and educate the Dressage community on their potential.
Special Recognition: Ramiro Vega. Ramiro Vega deserves Special Recognition for his service to breeders at breed shows and his warm hospitality at SICAB. Ramiro has a passion for the PRE horse, and also for the community that breeds and cares for these horses.
Janne Rumbough was in attendance to receive her award in person.
