The 21-year old licensed German Riding Pony stallion Power and Paint passed away 4 June 2014 due to an anyeurism. For years Power and Paint was the anchor of the Dutch team at numerous European Pony Championships.
The buckskin Power and Paint was born in 1993 and bred by Winfried Willems. He was by Power Boy out of Golden Dream (by Dancer x Valentino x Eckley). He became an approved stallion at the Aachen licensing in 1995. In 1998 he won his 30-day Stalllion Performance Test in Munster-handorf with a score of 14,15 points. He first started breeding in 1999 and has only one licensed son.
Power and Paint made his name not as a breeding stallion but in sport. He won the Bundeschampionate for 5-year old ponies in 1998. In 2001 he moved to The Netherlands to Coby van Baalen's stable where he was leased to a whole string of Coby's students. The pony was first competed internationally by Marrigje van Baalen (2002-2004), then Mara de Vries (2005) and Angela Krooswijk (2006 - 2007), and finally Rachell Fokker (2008).
Power and Paint won team silver at the European Pony Championships in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007. Marrigje van Baalen won individual silver at the 2004 Europeans and Angela Krooswijk won individual bronze at the 2006 Europeans.
A severe tendon injury and a long-lasting lawsuit was the end of Power and Paint's illustrous sports career. The Fokker family acquired the pony in 2008 but the pony became lame and the Dutch owners tried to have the sale annulled based on hidden injuries. Power and Paint moved into legal custody at Craig Rawlins' Stable Korenbloem in Weert and never left there.
Power and Paint was often the centre of media intention. First because of an incident at the 2007 European Pony Championships, where he was lunged in the rollkur position and afterwards because the non-stop lawsuit between the Fokker family and Pasch.
