Ulla Salzgeber will not be competing Herzruf's Erbe at the first official German WEG team selection trial which starts today Thursday 26 June 2014 at Gestut Peterhof in Perl-Borg, Germany. Her 14-year old Rhinelander gelding suffers from a hoof problem.

"I'm very sad," Salzgeber wrote. " Heriz had a hoof wall separation which gives Herzi acute pain. This prevents me from competing in Perl. The farrier necessarily had to cut award a great part of the hoof wall. He has made an artificial wall so a shoe could be attached, but Herzi doesn't really like it."

Salzgeber's Herzruf's Erbe has often been plagued by injuries and issues in the midst of team selection. After giving the horse a long field break in 2013 she made a successful come back to the arena and was in the running for a German team sport.

"This is so annoying," Salzgeber confessed, "but it's more important now that the hoof grows quickly and Herzi can feel fit again."

There was another drop out in Perl. Nadine Capellmann's Girasol (by Gribaldi x Landioso) was not entered for the show after also missing the observation trial at the 2014 German Dressage Championships in Balve after knocking herself at the CDI Hagen. The liver chestnut mare suffered from a hoof abscess and is still recovering. She is supposed to compete at Capellmann's home show, the CDIO Aachen.

"It's such a shame," Capellmann told Dressursport Deutschland. "Girasol was really well on her way and had a good round in Munich, but now she has a hoof abscess and needs a few days break. I hope to be back in Aachen."
