In an effort to boost dressage in Mexico and to provide show circumstances for riders aiming for the 2015 Pan American Games, the Mexican equestrian federation staged a second CDI in Mexico City within a short period of time. With only international small tour classes scheduled at the 28 - 29 June CDI event, Bernadette Pujals had free reign to ride to victory.
This show was set at the Campo Deportivo of Estado Mayor Presidencial (EMP), which is the sports compound of the presidential guard. This military compound is open to civilians with its swimming pool, tennis courts, shooting range and five different horse arenas including the largest indoor arena of Latin America, as well as a cross country course.
Grand Prix rider Antonio Rivera has dropped out as a 2014 World Equestrian Games contender, deciding not to show Lourdes Arida's Danish warmblood gelding N.O.H.'s Wizard (by White Talisman x Ragazzo x Picandt) internationally, but opting to contest in the national Grand Prix classes. He got 61.9% in the Grand Prix and 62.97% in the Special.
For the international small tour judges MacDonald, Weatherwax, Fore, Hansaghy, and de Wolff were flown in to assess the rides. Bernadette Pujals and Toni Camil's Mexican warmblood Aurora El Camino (by Prestige x Flemmingh) reigned supreme with a winning 69.45% in the Prix St Georges and 70.29% in the Special. She twice edged out Antonio Rivera on Wornels
The great absentee at this show was Enrique Palacios with Showtime, who are Central American & Caribbean Games team hopefuls.
