The chestnut D'Avie (by Don Juan de Hus x Londonderry) dominated the premium ring and auction on the concluding day of the the 2014 Hanoverian Stallion Licensing in Verden, Germany on Saturday 25 October 2014.
Ninety-one stallions were presented for approval at the 2014 Hanoverian Licensing and 46 of them were licensed. The dressage collection included 64 stallions of which almost half (31) were approved. Ten dressage stallions received the premium ring title.
The Hanoverian breed society no longer proclaims a champion of the licensing, but the crowd favourite and auction price highlight was the gorgeous D'Avie (by Don Juan de Hus x Londonderry), bred by Dorothee Heitmuller and owned by Heinrich Behrmann. The stallion was acquired at auction for the top knock down price of 620,000.
The sale of the horse led to much speculation about the buyer. The winning bidder was on the phone and was in a bidding duel against Paul Schockemohle/Lone Boegh Henriksen, who bid up to 600,000 euro. Originally it was stated that a female buyer got the horse and other rumours include a Swiss dressage stable, but Andreas Helgstrand confirmed to Eurodressage that he himself bought the young stallion.
The second most expensive horse of the auction was the premium stallion Talisman ( by Totilas x Sandro Hit x Donnerhall), bred and owned by Kerstin Albers-Bueker. He sold for 360,000 euro to the Celle State Stud.
The third most expensive horse was the premium stallion Flavio (by Fidertanz x De Vito x Andiamo), the full brother to Paul Schockemohle's Foundation, bred by Gerd Pigge and owned by Swedish Carsten Johansen. He sold for 270,000 euro to Gaston Glock in Austria after a bidding duel with the Belgians that recently bought Forever Love at the 2014 Hanoverian Autumn Elite Auction. Willem Klausing's premium Le Vivaldi (by Vivaldi x Sandro Hit x De Niro) sold for 230,000 euro.
The other premium dressage stallions are:
- Boliviano (by Belstaff x Londonderry) - bred and owned by Hans-Peter Grube, Buelstedt (sold for 33,000 €)
- Bulgari Dream (by Benetton Dream x Sir Bedo) - bred by Fischer & Leipold - owned by Kanganya (sold for 44,000 €)
- Bon Coeur (by Benetton Dream x Sandro Hit) - bred by Birgit Tietjen - owned by Martina Wahlers
- n.n. (by Diamond Hit x Florestan) - bred and owned by Gestüt Babiacki, Rees (sold for 70,000 € to the Werndl family)
- n.n. (by Don Index x Weltmeyer) - bred by Aloys Ewers - owned by Bernhard Schaerffer (sold for 70,000 € to Doug Leatherdale)
- n.n. (by Don Index x Brentano II) - bred by Heinz Dettmers - owned by Heinrich Giesselmann (sold for 100,000 €)
The young Hanoverian stallion prospects were in high demand and buyers paid good prices for the young stallions. The non-premium Dandolo (by De Niro x Florencio x Prince Thatch xx) sold for 100,000 euro. The most expensive, not licensed stallion was the Fürst Romancier x Dream of Glory colt which sold to Belgium for 70,000 euro.
The average price for a licensed stallion was 72.631 euro, a not licensed stallion was 22.524 euro on average.
