2014 Otto Lörke prize winner St. Emilion is the paragon of the PSI auction horse. Last week at the World Cup Qualifier in Stuttgart, the 9-year old Westfalian stallion, his owner Christina Ullrich and rider Dorothee Schneider were decorated for St. Emilion being one of Germany's most promising Grand Prix horses of 2014.
The Otto Lorke Prize is awarded to the rider, owner and trainer of the most promising German Grand Prix horse of the year under the age of 10. The award is named after legendary trainer Otto Lorke (1879 - 1957) and has been annually bestowed upon horses for the past 29 years. Previous recipients are, for instance, Rembrandt, Gigolo, Rusty, Farbenfroh, Goldstern, Grunox, Satchmo, and Bella Rose.
St. Emilion stands for everything the PSI Auction aims to represent: spotting world class talented horses at an early age and selling them to the right owner who can bring the horse to its full potential, including the international Grand Prix arena.
Hof Kasselmann scouted the Westfalian branded St. Emilion (by Sandro Hit x Ehrenwort) as a young foal, immediately recognizing the charming colt's fantastic movements and conformation. Kasselmann acquired the young colt and reared it at Paul Schockemohle's renowned brood farm Gestut Lewitz.
As a 2,5 year old St. Emilion was prepared for the stallion licensing and obtained approvel from the Oldenburg licensing committee. The black beauty went into training at Hof Kasselmann, where they professionally prepared him for his future dressage career and sale at the PSI Auction in Ankum.
Christina Ullrich of Ullrich Equine acquired St. Emilion at the 2008 PSI Auction and put the horse in training with her trusted rider Dorothee Schneider. The brand new duo achieved much success quickly as the pair represented Germany at the 2011 World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden, where they won the bronze medal.
The Schneider-St. Emilion duo has made a stellar rise from there. They finished 8th in the 2012 Nurnberger Burgpokal Finals for Developing Prix St Georges horses. Two years later St. Emilion made his international Grand Prix debut in 2014, competing at the CDI Fritzens, where he scored 71.460 % in his first Grand Prix. At CDI Donaueschingen he finished fourth in the Grand Prix with 71.580%.
In Stuttgart on 22 November 2014 former PSI Auction horse St. Emilion became the 2014 Otto Lorke Prize recipient.
