Norwegian dressage judge Kjell Myhre has been appointed the new Norwegian team captain for the junior and young riders. Myhre was appointed by the Norwegian Equestrian Federation, where who works as a development consultant.
"Kjell is a familiar name in dressage sport. He has a wide network, great expertise and is good at communication and organization. We believe his expertise and personality will help to bring the team to a new level. He can develop good relationships between athletes in the team, with the coaches and their support system," said the press officer of the Norwegian equestrian federation.
The Norwegian Equestrian Federation has been struggling to keep team captains across the levels with many trainer switches the past three years. The current Norwegian team trainer for junior and young riders is Danish Thomas Dolleris Larsen.
The Oslo based Myhre started working as consultant for training and education at the Norwegian Equestrian Federation in 1998. From 2000 to 2010 he was the secretary General at the Federation, but resigned in 2011 to become secretary-general of the NGO Hest og Helse (Horses and Health) for three years. Kjell returned to the Norwegian federation working as development consultant, mainly dealing with riding clubs and their ability to contribute to the main objectives of the federation, equestrian sport for everyone.
The 49-year old Myhre has gained international recognition as a judge and was member of the ground jury at the 2013 European Junior/Young Riders Championships. He was also president of the ground jury at the 2012 London Paralympics and judged at the at the 2014 World Equestrian Games Paralympics.
