Junior rider Febe van Zwambagt and young rider Dana van Lierop were the winners at the first leg of the 2015 KNHS Junior-Young Riders Cup, held in Oud-Gastel on Saturday 21 February 2015. This Cup is a long existing show circuit of national shows for Dutch junior and young riders and it serves as observation trials for team selection.
The circuit has had several names based on their sponsors and for 2015 the Cup is sponsored by the companies of the Meulendijks and Zoutdijk family.
In the junior division Febe van Zwambagt and her chestnut FS Las Vegas (by Lord Loxley) scored 71.80% to take home the trophy. She edged out Laura Quint on Velazquez (by Krack C) who finished second with 70.32%. Lisanne Zoutendijk and Ringo Star (by Riccione) rounded out the top three with a third place finish on 70.14%.
Judge Jeannette Wolfs commented that, "Febe rode very meticulously. She uses every meter in the arena and you can see that she has ridden many tests at this level. In this test she scored with her beautiful changes and good extended walk, which counts double. Laura Quint has a very impressive grey with much expression in front. In trot we gave 8s. Just like Febe, Laura really knows what she is doing. You can see that the experience they got from pony shows now comes in handy."
In the young riders division Dana van Lierop and the Oldenburg mare Equestricons Walkure (by Romanov x Donnerschwee) led the field with 70.57%, followed by Lotte Meulendijks on Ohio (by Indoctro) with 69.65%. Routinier Denise Nekeman was closely on Lotte's heels when she landed third place with 69.43%.
"What a wonderful horse. Walkure put her best foot forward today and did great," Van Lierop commented. "I made a few stupid mistakes myself but am still very happy with her. She gives me an amazing feeling."
