Jonny Hilberath's career making Grand Prix horse Fariano has been euthanized at the graceful age of 25 due to laminitis. The horse was retired from international competition in the spring of 2009.
Fariano was born in 1990 and bred by Werner Kaiser Lüsen. He was by Wanderbusch I out of Witney (by Wienerwald x Wohlklang).
The elegant bay gelding was always known to be a very hot and temperamental horse. With his show jumping pedigree he was first reared and trained in a jumper barn, where the Japanese Yoko Shinohara first discovered him as a 7-year old.
The horse made a very atypical late entry into the competition world as a full grown Grand Prix horse at age 13. Under trainer Jonny Hilberath Fariano did his very first show at a regional event in Kayhude, Germany, in July 2003 where the pair finished 5th in a Grand Prix Special test.
Between 2003 and 2009 the duo competed regularly at national and international events. Their career highlights include a Grand Prix Special victory at the 2004 CDI Olfen, a Special victory at the 2006 CDIO Saumur and 2006 CDI Oldenburg. They also won bronze at the 2007 German Dressage Championships for male riders in Gera. They were German B-team listed.
Fariano competed internationally in numerous major CDI's such as Dortmund, Aachen, Stuttgart, Odense, Aubenhausen, Lingen, Bremen, Wiesbaden, Braunschweig, Flyinge, Hagen, Falsterbo, Aarhus, and De Steeg.
Fariano was retired from competition in the spring of 2009. In agreement with owner Yoko Shinohara, Fariano spent the rest of his life at Jonny's yard in Scheesel, Germany.
