Breitling W Passed Away

The Hanoverian licensed breeding stallion and Grand Prix competed dressage horse Breitling W has passed away at age 24. The stallion had to be euthanized following a severe blatter colic on Sunday 13 December 2015.

Breitling W was born on 4 April 19991 and was by Bismarck out of Maja (by Maat x Gralsritter. He was bred by Hermann Niehus in Rahden andowned by his son-in-law Wolfram Wittig.

Breitling W was never a highly popular breeding stallion as the chestnut was focused on his dressage career. Only at age 7 did he get licensed at the Hanoverian stallion licensing in Verden. He was already at Bundeschampionate and Nurnberger Burgpokal (Developing PSG Championships) finalist at the time. Wolfram Wittig competed stalion at international Grand Prix level until 2007 and retired the horse from sport as he became sensitive to colic.

Although Breitling W has not bred much, no less than 28 have been successful at S-level or higher. His offspring Blind Date and Burlington both won the Nurnberger Burgpokal Finals, Blind Date was Victoria Max-Theurer's winning ride at the 2014 Austrian Dressage Championships and a team horse at the 2015 European Championships.  Offspring Balmoral W won the 2013 Louisdor Cup. Nine Breitling offspring were competed in the Bundeschampionate or Burgpokal by Wolfram and Brigitte Wittig themselves.

Breitling W was proclaimed Hanoverian Stallion of the Year 2014.
