The KWPN foundation mare Fidora (by Ulft x Roemer x Ulex) passed away on 6 February 2016 at her home yard Beijer Breeding Stables in Boven-Leeuwen, The Netherlands. The mare was 29 years old.
Bred and owned by the Beijer family, Fidora was a preferent prestation KWPN mare who produced the 2009 and 2011 European Dressage Champion and 2012 Olympic silver medal winning Grand Prix horse Parzival.
Fidora was never competed but produced no less than 17 foals in her life time!. Her first, Ismee (by Bismarck) was born in 1990. Her most famous offspring is Parzival, by Jazz. Fidora produced five more full siblings to Parzival: Orleans (1996), Tuzla (2000), Toulouse (2000), D'Avance de Baian (2008) and Fleau de Baian (2009). The latter is AES approved. Fidora is also in the dam line of liensed stallions Armani (by United) and Governor (by Totilas).
"We had to take the difficult decision to put Fidora to sleep," said owner Ellen van Sommeren. "Despite of her good mental and physical health, especially considering her respectable age of 29, she could not stand up anymore, after which we decided to put her to sleep. She died peacefully at her trusted stable. We will miss her wayward and intelligent character, which she also passed on to her offspring. We are pleased that we could give this special, valuable mare good latter days, and will never forget her and the successes she has brought us," said Van Sommeren.
