The German U25 horse PSI De Caprio has passed away after a freak accident on Sunday 13 March 2016. The 16-year old Hanoverian gelding broke his leg in a lunging accident.
PSI De Caprio was by De Niro x Sion x Akzent II and bred by Altine Schothorst.
The horse sold to Andrea Beatty in Australia through Hof Kasselmann and was trained and competed to Grand Prix level by Judy Dierks. In 2010 Matthew Dowsley took over the ride and showed the bay at the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Australian Championships. They made their European Grand Prix debut in January 2013. He also competed him in one CDI in Hagen in April 2013 before handing back the ride to the team at Hof Kasselmann, where the horse stayed to be sold.
Under Hof Kasselmann's assistant trainer Borja Carrascosa, PSI De Caprio competed at the CDI Compiegne, Fritzens and Perl in 2013.
Thomas Wiese, owner of equestrian centre Massener Heide near Dortmund, Germany, acquired the Hanoverian gelding as an Under 25 schoolmaster for his daughter Isabell. The new pair competed at the national shows in Ankum and Zierow in 2015. They competed in the medium tour at national level at the 2016 CDI Dortmund at the beginning of March, their last show together.
On Sunday 13 March PSI De Caprio was being lunged at his home yard when he fractured his leg. He immediately had to be euthanized.
