The KWPN licensed stallion Davino VOD has passed away. The 8-year old Dutch warmblood succumbed on Wednesday night 27 April 2016 to an injury he sustained in his stall.
"Last night Davino VOD passed away," said owner Van Os. "Last week, for unknown reasons, he fell in his stall and after getting examined they found a big haematoma in his pelvis. This became fatal and last night he succumbed to his injuries."
Davino VOD was bred by Van Os Dressage Horses and originally named Deniro VOD. He was by Hotline out of the keur mare Kilucienne (by Michelangelo x Farn), who also produced the licensed stallion UB40.
He was licensed at the 2011 KWPN Stallion Licensing and completed his stallion performance testing in the autumn on 2011. He scored 85.5 points with 8.5s for his walk, trot and canter.
From his first crop of foals, Van Os' home bred mare Heliana VOD became the 2012 KWPN Mare Champion in the 3-year old division.
As a youngster, Davino VOD went in training at Coby van Baalen's barn and was only very limitedly competed. In 2012 he had sustained a crack in his pedal bone in the paddock, but he recovered from that. In 2013 Lisanne der Nederlanden made a few appearances on the stallion and showed him "hors concours" at the 2013 Pavo Cup finals and at three events of the 2013-2014 KWPN Stallion Competition circuit.
"Because Davino sustained multiple injuries he was no longer active in sport," Van Os explained.
