Former German number one Grand Prix rider Helen Langehanenberg has returned to the international Grand Prix ring on the experienced 14-year old Hanoverian bred Damsey and bagged her first CDI victory in the licensed stallion. At the 2016 CDI Mannheim on Saturday 30 April 2016, Langehanenberg scored 73.740 % for the trophy in the Grand Prix.
Thirty-two riders lined up for the Grand Prix and were assessed by judges Elisabeth Koffmann, Ghislain Fouarge, Freddy Leyman, Evi Eisenhardt, and Reinhard Richenhagen. The panel was unanimous in placing Helen on Louise Leatherdal's Damsey (by Dressage Royal x Ritual) first. Her marks ranged from 72.500% to 76.200%.The dark bay stallion stood out with his trot extensions and lightfooted, active passage work, which needs to improve in regularlity, but in piaffe he each time lost the rhythm, stalled or lost the forward tendency. The tempi changes were outstanding and the pirouettes scopey.
"What a day! My first international start with Damsey and straight away a victory with 73.7% in the Mannheim Grand Prix," said a pleased 33-year old Langehanenberg.
Jenny Lang and the 16-year old Holsteiner Loverboy (by Lorentin x Alcatraz) were the runners-up with 71.460% and edged out Swedish Jennie Larsson on Lovsta Stutteri's 12-year old Dutch warmblood gelding Zircoon Spring Flower (by Painted Black x Armstrong), who scored 70.380% for third place.
The Saturday CDI programme also covered an international Under 25 division, which proved to be more of a challenge for the ground jury. The Under 25 Intermediaire II was judged by Eugenio Rovida, Jeanette Wolfs and Cornelie Hinsch. The routinier Juliette Piotrowski topped the leader board with the 11-year old Oldenburg bred Sir Diamond (by Sandro Hit x De Niro) with 71.491%. Dutch Danielle Houtvast slotted in second aboard the 15-year old Dutch bred Utah (by Jazz x Landwins II) with 69.474%. Her marks ranged from 65.790% to 73.553%. The third place Sarah Runge on Furst Kasper (by Furst Piccolo) finished third with 68.991% but had scores ranging from 66.842% to 72.500%. Fourth placed Dutch Jill Huybregts finished on 68.816%. The Dutch judge had her first though with 71.184% while Italian judge Rivida rewarded that test with 66.184%
In the international young riders class Jessica Krieg aced the team championship test aboard the 14-year old Hanoverian bred Revers Side (by Romancero x Archipel) with 70.439%, almost a full percentage ahead of herself on her second horse Special Edition, an 11-year old Hanoveroian gelding by Sir Donnerhall x Rohdiamant, with whom she scored 69.693%. Finnish Anna Tallberg and the Westfalian Fernet (by Furst Heinrich x Fagott) were third with 67.675%.
