American Rio Olympic Squad Named for Euro Tour and Observation Trials

The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) has named nine athlete-and-horse combinations to the squad for the European Observation Events as part of the selection process for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Dressage Team.

The athletes and their horses will compete in designated CDIO/CDI observation events taking place May 19 – June 26, 2016.  All combinations are required to compete in two of the designated observation events: the CDI Compiegne or CDI Roosendaal, followed by an obligatory start at the CDIO Rotterdam in June.

The American Rio squad will be based at Rob van Puijenbroek's equestrian centre De Begijnhoeve in Retie, Belgium, where they also stayed during the 2014 WEG team selection Euro Tour.

Seven riders and nine horses have been selected on the U.S. Olympic squad based on their average score achieved during the winter season in Florida and California. The seven highest ranked riders were named on the squad.

The following athletes and horses have been named to the squad:

  • Laura Graves - Verdades (score average 77.000% - 1st)
  • Steffen Peters - Rosamunde (75.490 - 2nd) and Legolas (74.692% - 3rd)
  • Kasey Perry-Glass - Goerklintgaards Dublet (73.215% - 4th)
  • Allison Brock - Rosevelt (s72.873 - 5th)
  • Shelly Francis - Doktor (72.782% - 6th) and Danilo (72.255  - 7th)
  • Arlene Page - Woodstock (71.584 - 8th)
  • Guenter Seidel - Zero Gravity (71.484% - 9th)

Just missing out on a squad spot are Lisa Wilcox on Galant (70.565% - 10th), Kathleen Raine on Breanna (70.063% - 11th), Catherine Hadded on Hotmail (69.854% - 12th) and Charlotte Jorst on Nintendo (69.057% - 13th)
