Danish Grand Prix rider Carina Nevermann Torup has broken her foot in a riding accident which happened during the prize giving ceremony at the 2016 CDIO Odense in Denmark on 13 - 15 May 2016.

Aboard the Danish warmblood mare Grevens Sa Va (by Soprano x Romancier) Carina had a very successful weekend in Odense, winning the Prix St Georges with 73.737%, the Intermediaire I with 73.079% and placing second in the Inter I kur to music with 76.125%.

Unfortunately during the final prize giving victory lap, Grevens Sa Va got a bit wild and lifted her rider from the saddle. Nevermann Torup fell off her horse, who then accidentally stepped on her rider's foot.

"The cooler was so slippery and Sa Va jumped in the air and to the side," Nevermann Torup told Ridehesten. "She bucked and I was launched from the saddle. She could get away from me on the ground because of the other horses in the victory lap and then she stepped on me."

Nevermann Torup was rushed to the hospital but it took the doctors eight hours before they had time to examine her. A bone was fractured in Carina's foot and she will have to walk in crutches for the next five weeks.
