The prestigious 2016 World Championships for Young Dressage Horses are just around the corner. From 28 - 31 July 2016 the headquarters of the Dutch equestrian federation in Ermelo, The Netherlands, are home to these thrilling championships for young talents. For four days, sports and breeding will come together and will be the centre of attention in the global equestrian community.
New Queen's Class: the 7-year old Championship
Alongside the classes for five- and six-year-old dressage horses, a new thrilling class has been added to the program. For the first time we will see seven-year-old horses competing at the World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses. They will perform a small tour dressage test.
Alongside the World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses there is a class for four-year-old stallions and stallions aged eight years or above will show their skills in their own category ‘Dressage stallions of the year’.
The night before the grand finals of the four-, five- and six-year-olds on Sunday, the Excellent Dressage Sales auction, supported by KWPN, takes place. Seasoned Grand-Prix horses to foals descending from impressive bloodlines will go under the hammer. Amongst them are future heavyweights, so check out the collection quickly.
Incubator for success
For years, the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses that was previously organized in Verden, Germany, has been a breeding-ground for later success. Already during the first edition in 1999, when the world championships title was bestowed on the top progenitor Sandro Hit. His incomparable influence in sports and breeding is evident. De Niro-son Deveraux, recent European champion in the Under 25, was victorious in the 2006 edition. Olympic Games-participants Painted Black (Gribaldi), Uzzo (Lancet) and Damon Hill (Donnerhall) took their first steps of their impressive international career at the World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses.
